Recidivists do exist however for describing their population, which is not homogenous, there are a lot of inconsistent views differing according to the concerned fields and sometimes inspired by dogmatism. The old conception of reoffending based on taking into account the offender’s past has been supplanted, in modern views, by the wish to forecast the probability of a lapse. One is led to thinking that reoffending is no more an operating notion and that it has merged into crime in general of which it is a mere type.
