Jean-Marc Roy, René Girard: Violence and Power
This article sets out to re-evaluate the place of violence in human relations. In pursuance of the work of René Girard, this violence is apprehended within the process of social foundation. Such a redistribution of the role assigned to violence implies that we should no longer treat power relations and the origins of social relations as a single phenomenon. This approach requires that neither facet of reality – force and rule – be eluded with a view to unravelling their interaction in the forms of practice but also to render those relations the complexity that characterizes them.
