Didier Martin, The Costs of Quotation
Choosing to float the shares of a company on the stock market is a decision calling for careful thought: it must take into account the significant advantages of going on the stock market as well as the costs and constraints of this operation. Even when the needs of financing and liquid assets might lead a company to wish to float its shares, the various costs related to quotation and to the status of listed company must be taken into account in the decision process. The present paper aims at bringing up the numerous costs and constraints entailed by the listing of a company. It also intends to call the reader’s attention on the measures taken or to be taken in order to diminish these costs and, more generally speaking, on the need to make the market more attrac-tive and less expensive, in particular by developing and creating incentives in favor of small business. Cutting back on the costs of quotation is required however the priority must be to develop an efficient and effective market.
