Jean-Claude Najar, Social Responsibility of the Company
Is CSR merely a legal obligation for companies? In fact, it is a much broader concept that involves the duties and interests of business. Societal and environmental respon-sibilities of companies result from both international, European and national rules and principles, but also from rules of conduct that companies, especially multinationals, edict to bind themselves in a perspective of sustainable development. This responsible approach also serves the interests of the company in maximizing its profits and allowing it to meet the challenges of an evolving civil society. Social responsibility and profit are not mutually exclusive; CSR can be a source of growth. There are many ini-tiatives, global and French, now tending to strengthen CSR. Companies best apply this concept, but it also develops on the level of one profession, or even one country. By acting as a good citizen, a company innovates.
