Lorraine Boris, Buddhism and transhumanism
Buddhism and transhumanism seem to share a lot of common ground. Recent scientific developments, especially in neuroscience, seem to confirm what Buddhist practitioners have long discovered and described. Yet, both do not necessarily prove so close to each other. Buddhism is an invitation to discover, for oneself, what trans-humanism promises to render available to anyone via technology, regardless of the individual’s intentions. The confrontation of both shows diverging ground assumptions, and helps us question some transhumanist claims.
