Bernard Baertschi, Which Patriotism at the Age of Globalization?
Economic globalization, cosmopolitanism, and multiculturalism are characteristic of modern societies; they force us to reconsider traditional national attachments. But is it a good thing or not ? Should we speed it up ? There is a lot of good arguments in favor of a large opening but, paradoxically, we observe that it is not without danger for the autonomy of people. Between particularism (nationalism) and universalism (cosmopolitanism), a third way is to be hoped for.
