Dany Cohen, Art, Public and Market
The expression "art market" is frequently used and usually in the singular. It raises a host of questions ranging from the opposition one instinctively and maybe a little hastily draws between art and trade economy, to the existence of a multitude of various artistic disciplines, appealing to publics (therefore to various markets), without forgetting the nature of common property of a work, or the very special forms to consume it or even the underlying, anticipated presence of future generations, in particular in the legal rules and the action of the public power. The today dominating situation the community has taken a long while ago in the movement, allows one to speak of a cultural public service and to question the space left to art in the societies at the turn of this century.
